Tyler Zimmerman, the brother of Michael Zimmerman Jr. had a lot of pressure on him heading into Saturday’s State Championship Game. Tyler, an ActivEdge athlete and junior at Cardinal Gibbons, is following the footsteps of his brother, but also blazing his own path. Michael, a Sophomore at Christoper Newport University, won two state titles during his four years at Cardinal Gibbons. This left Tyler with no option but to win on Saturday, and that is exactly what he did. Tyler, the leading scorer for Cardinal Gibbons this past season, finished the season with 18 goals and had the game winning assist in the championship Saturday for the Crusaders. Cardinal Gibbons beat Hickory High School 2-1 on Saturday. Tyler looks to repeat next year and leave the tradition up to his little brother, Nelson, to carry out.
