ActivEdge sends 13 more recent high school graduate athletes from its year-round and summer programs to college with high hopes and expectations, both scholastically and athletically:
Brendan Bailey – graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School but played locally for the Triangle Select Lacrosse team with several of the other ActivEdge attendees. Brendan participated in the Great 38 game that features North Carolina’s top graduating high school athletes this past summer. He is heading to Mary Washington in Virginia to play lacrosse this fall.
Kendall Bradley – graduated from Durham Academy. Captained and led them to the soccer State Championship game her junior year and the semi-finals her senior year. She was voted All-State for NC Independent Schools. She plays for the ’88 CASL Spartan Elite with fellow ActivEdge training partner and future roommate Maddy McEwen. Kendall will be attending Duke University and is looking to contribute immediately this fall on their soccer team.
Cam Chambers – graduated from Durham Academy. Played 3 years on the varsity basketball squad earning a reputation as a straight shooter while leading them in free-throw percentage his junior and senior years. He played for D-One Sports, a showcase team based out of Greensboro. He has decided to go for a post-graduate year at the heralded Blair Academy in New Jersey.
Peter Christmas – graduated from East Chapel Hill High School. Captained the team his senior year while earning All-State recognition. He was honored to play in the inaugural North-South All-Star game in South Carolina with fellow club teammate Tommy Drake. He plays locally on the nationally recognized ’88 Navy Triangle Futbol Club team and is looking to contribute this fall at The College of William & Mary in Virginia. He is looking forward to coming home and playing UNC in September.
Vytas Degesys – graduated from Durham Academy. Was on the varsity tennis team that advanced to the State Championship this past spring. Vytas played number 1 doubles with Parker Pryor and numbers 3-5 for singles. He has chosen to go across the nation to Santa Clara University and will try and walk-on for the tennis team.
Willie Dixon – graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School. Was a standout in football and track all four years at Gibbons. He earned All-State recognition his senior year in both sports. He was the featured running back in football and ran the 100 and 200 meter sprints in track. Willie is looking forward attending Wake Forest University on a football scholarship this fall.
Evan Fjeld – graduated from Durham Academy. Played 3 years with Chambers on the varsity basketball squad leading the team in rebounds and shot-blocking. He played this past summer for the NC Gators and finished first in the 2007 AAU National Championships. Evan started in July at The University of Vermont with some of the other freshman basketball recruits, but was able to get in a few workouts in August before returning for good this fall.
Rob Kirkland – graduated from Durham Academy. Was on the varsity golf team for 5 years and team captain his senior year. He was a highly ranked junior golfer over the past several years and regarded as one of the best golfers to ever go through Durham Academy. Rob has chosen to go to his beloved UNC and will try and walk-on the golf team in the spring.
Renee Korman – graduated from East Chapel Hill High School. Played 4 years on the varsity soccer team at East. She led the team in scoring her senior year and was an All-Conference selection. She played in the East-West game with Maddy this past summer. She played on the ’88 Navy Triangle Futbol team and will be attending Appalachian State University this fall. She is looking forward to joining old teammates and friends Paige and Leigh Morrow on the soccer team at ASU.
Maddy McEwen – graduated from Riverside High School. Played 4 years of varsity soccer at RHS. An All-Conference selection all 4 years, captain her senior year, and played in the East-West All-Star game this past summer. She plays with Kendall on the ’88 CASL Spartan Elite and will be rooming and playing on the soccer team with her this fall at Duke University. Maddy is also a gifted student graduating in the top 3 in her class.
Mike Mueller – graduated from Durham Academy. Ran varsity track and cross-country all 4 years at Durham Academy. He was the anchor of the State Champion and school record setting 4 x 800 meter relay team. He will be attending Miami University of Ohio this fall and looks to hopefully get a spot on the track team in the spring of 2008.
Dana Sroka – graduated from Northern High School. She played 4 years of varsity soccer at Northern. She led them in scoring all 4 years and set a school record for career goals. She was an All-Conference selection her junior and senior years. She played club soccer on the ’88 Triangle United Gold team. She will be playing soccer for UNC-Asheville this fall.
Ashley Upchurch – graduated from Jordan High School. She played 4 years of varsity soccer for Jordan earning All-Conference recognition. She is a versatile player that plays both offense and defense when needed. She helped her club team, the ’89 Navy Triangle Futbol Club, to a State Championship this past year. She will be playing soccer for NC State this fall.
